For $13 million in 1977, York’s late father, construction magnate Edward DeBartolo Sr., purchased the team for his son, Edward DeBartolo Jr. With a current valuation of $5.2 billion, the franchise is the Forbes lists the sixth-most valuable team in the NFL.

The 49ers’ 23-year owner, Edward Jr., was suspended from the team following his 1998 conviction for omitting to submit a felony charge during the corruption probe of former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards. York took over the team’s operations in 2000 along with her spouse, John York.
