For devoted supporters of the team, the 2023 Detroit Lions season stands out as one of the best. Dan Campbell guided the team to a spectacular playoff run that nearly saw them make it to the Super Bowl, which was quite the journey for fans who had to watch their team suffer for the longest time at the basement of the NFC North.

Their current success may be due to a number of factors, including the caliber of the rookies they chose in the 2023 Draft as well as the coaching and leadership of Campbell.

The rookies who succeeded in exceeding expectations are currently reaping the rewards of their hard work, and the front office of the Detroit Lions is getting credit for their foresight.

Jeremy Reisman of the Pride of Detroit noted that after witnessing their youngsters make significant contributions to their amazing 2023 campaign, scouts from around the league selected the team to receive the “Best Draft Award.”
He also described the skepticism that permeated the league and its surrounding communities regarding the caliber of the players they selected for their squad:

There was a lot of immediate criticism directed toward the Lions selection class. As a matter of fact, the Lions placed 25th overall in a compilation and average of around thirty post-draft assessments. The majority of the criticism was directed on Detroit for disregarding positional value and defying expectations by selecting an off-ball linebacker and a running back in the first round.

But the Detroit Lions’ deliberate approach to the draft was evident throughout the 2023 NFL season. Despite the strange choices they made early in the draft, the rookies they chose did well in their positions.
