Widra launched a leadoff home run, her first of the year and her second hit of the day, to start the game after being kept without a runner in the third inning. After that, Auburn added two more runs to put pressure on Southeast Missouri State. If the Redhawks were unable to score in the top of the following frame, Auburn may have easily won the game.
In the top of the fifth, Widra took the mound for her second inning of work. With her second strikeout, she put Auburn in a position to walk off the game.
Widra made the decision to handle it herself with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning and no runners on base.
Widra stated, “I was really just trying to stay within my process.” “I was just trying to stay within myself and put barrel to ball, even though I knew we had two outs and I honestly didn’t even know the score.”
Lowe earned her second win of the season to improve to 2-0 as the Tigers combined to throw a no-hitter that kept the Redhawks to three base runners the whole game.
Whether there are zeros on the board or not, Lowe stated, “it is always a good day to be out there,” but the presence of zeros is always a great day.
With three innings pitched, seven strikeouts, and one walk in her final three innings, Lowe reduced her ERA from 5.27 to 2.47.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, pinch hitter Kyla Stroud was the only player to record a strikeout for Auburn; the team’s total of one strikeout was a season low.
Mickey Dean, the head coach, stated, “We talked about sticking with your process twice this week.” “That was definitely key because you are playing these many games against the same teams and you never know what kind of pitching you are going to see.”
