In the first game of a four-game series, the San Francisco Giants defeated the St.

Louis Cardinals 4-0 thanks to a three-run home run by J.D. Davis and an 11-year shutout by Alex Cobb.

Cobb (1-1) played a complete game for the first time since 2018 with Baltimore, scattering six hits and striking out four. August 2012’s four-hitter for Tampa Bay against Oakland was his only other major league shutout.

This season, it was the third full game in the main leagues. This month, right-hander Gerrit Cole of the Yankees and Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins—who is currently the winner of the NL Cy Young Award—both pitched shutouts against the Minnesota Twins.
