Sophie Cunningham’s family planning lawsuit is the subject of rumors, but what is the real story? The WNBA was rocked by Sophie Cunningham’s leg injury, but now there are strange rumors that her family is preparing to sue Bria Hartley, possibly even the league itself. Fans seem to take the whispers as gospel, and they are all over the place. But what’s the true tale? They are not supported by any evidence at all.

‎Let’s break it down: Cunningham collided with Hartley on the court and sustained a season-ending MCL tear. She stated unequivocally that there is no animosity between them in an emotional “Show Me Something” podcast segment. Bria and Soph have a close friendship.

‎The wound? It’s simply bad timing. Cunningham’s family has been outspoken in the interim, but in a reasonable manner. Their mother briefly blamed Hartley’s aggressive style (a post later removed) after her sister Lindsey criticized the WNBA’s officiating on social media. In order to defuse the situation, Sophie publicly intervened and urged everyone to stop placing the blame on Hartley.

‎However, rumors of lawsuits, shocking disclosures, and even the collapse of the WNBA are rife on social media, particularly Facebook and YouTube. The media hasn’t covered any of that. Because there is nothing reliable to report, there is silence in the sports media.

‎Clickbait videos and suggestive headlines don’t constitute a case. What is the lesson, then? The most provocative theories—the league itself on trial, legal explosions, and family v. Hartley—are just that—theorems. There are no lawyer statements, no court filings, nothing. Additionally, Soph herself has indicated that she is more concerned with healing than with drama.

‎Emotions run high and rumors can seem real in sports. The notion of a high-stakes lawsuit, however, remains merely wishful headlines until there is concrete documentation—filing records, attorney statements, credible reporting.
