Bo Nix Returns to Eugene as Assistant Coach — “Unfinished Business”

Oregon legend makes surprise comeback to chase a national title from the sidelines

EUGENE, Ore. — In a move that has sent shockwaves through the college football world, former Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix is officially returning to Eugene — this time, not as a player, but as a newly named offensive assistant coach. The announcement was made early this morning by head coach Dan Lanning in a press conference that felt more like a pep rally than a media event.

“Bo is one of the smartest football minds I’ve ever coached,” Lanning said. “He understands this program, this offense, and most importantly, what it means to be a Duck. Bringing him back just made sense.”

Nix, who led Oregon to a Pac-12 Championship and multiple top-10 finishes during his tenure, is widely regarded as one of the most transformative players in recent school history. After transferring from Auburn in 2022, he quickly became a fan favorite and helped elevate Oregon’s offense to national prominence with his arm, leadership, and clutch play.

Now, just months after concluding his college playing career and preparing for the NFL, Nix says he felt a pull he couldn’t ignore.

“I had options, but nothing felt quite right,” Nix said during his introductory remarks. “I love this university. I love this team. I feel like I have unfinished business here — and if I can help bring a national championship to Eugene in any way, I’m all in.”

Nix will focus primarily on quarterback development and game-planning, according to Lanning. His intimate knowledge of Oregon’s system and relationships with current players are expected to pay immediate dividends.

Fans flooded social media with excitement and nostalgia, with many calling it the “best offseason news in years.” Former teammates and NFL pros also voiced their support, applauding Nix for investing in the next generation of Ducks.

While Bo Nix’s chapter as a player may have ended, his story with Oregon clearly isn’t finished. And with a championship still on the table, the Ducks just gained one of their most passionate allies — this time, with a headset.
