Gregg Popovich Experiences Medical Scare at San Antonio Restaurant, Transported by Ambulance

San Antonio Spurs icon Gregg Popovich experienced a health scare on Tuesday night after a medical emergency prompted his removal from a local restaurant in an ambulance, TMZ Sports has learned.

According to officials, emergency responders were called to the scene following reports that an elderly man had fainted during dinner. Sources confirmed that the 76-year-old Popovich was the individual involved. He had been dining at a San Antonio steakhouse for nearly two hours before the incident occurred, which is believed to be linked to the mild stroke he suffered back in early November.

Video footage shows Popovich being carefully loaded into the back of an ambulance on a stretcher around 8:20 PM. Witnesses said he appeared conscious and responsive at the time, and he was promptly taken to a hospital. Authorities later described his condition as non-life-threatening.

One source added that by the time Popovich was in the emergency vehicle, he was alert and speaking. He has since returned home and is reportedly recovering well.

Popovich has been away from the Spurs’ bench since earlier in the season to focus on his health. In his absence, assistant coach Mitch Johnson has taken over head coaching duties on an interim basis. The team announced in February that Popovich would not resume his coaching responsibilities for the remainder of the season.

A revered figure in the sport, Popovich is considered one of the greatest coaches in NBA history. He led the Spurs to five NBA championships and coached Team USA to Olympic gold in Tokyo in 2020. He also holds the record for most wins by a coach in league history.

Despite numerous attempts to contact the Spurs organization for a statement over the last few days, the team has yet to respond publicly.
