Remarks from Iowa women’s basketball regarding McKenna Woliczko signing Josh Helmer’s portrait Hawkeyes Wire’s Josh Helmer For the Iowa women’s basketball team, Wednesday was a significant day.

‎McKenna Woliczko, a five-star forward, formally joined the Hawkeyes. Woliczko is Iowa’s second-highest-ranked recruit in program history, after Caitlin Clark, and the highest-ranked recruit thus far in the Jan Jensen era. Woliczko, a 6-foot-2 forward from San Jose, California’s Archbishop Mitty, chose Iowa over Ohio State, South Carolina, and USC as his final three schools.

‎On the first day of the early signing period, Jensen spoke to the media about her feelings and response to Iowa formally acquiring Woliczko. She is simply an amazing player. Among the best in the nation, of course. She persevered despite an unfortunate injury last year, which is what I believe to be really special about her. You can tell that the reputation and skill level are extremely high when you sit out.

‎Additionally, she is incredibly adaptable. She handles the ball effortlessly, but wow, she can make a three-pointer. She is intelligent, a leader, a rebounder, and she can reach the rim. What a wonderful child. Wonderful family. It was a huge moment for us to get that kind of person first and foremost, and then to see what kind of player she is. Because of her versatile game, which is “smooth, pretty, and very impactful,” Jensen stated, Hawk fans will truly enjoy watching her.

‎Before sustaining a season-ending injury that coach Jensen mentioned, Woliczko was averaging 22.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game on 59% shooting the previous season.

Woliczko averaged 22.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game during her sophomore campaign with Archbishop Mitty. According to 247Sports, Woliczko is ranked as the second-best power forward in the country, the sixth-best player overall, and the second-best player in California for the 2026 class.
