TORONTo – The CFL punished kickers Sergio Castillo, Brett Lauther, Sean Whyte, and Lewis Ward on Friday for

openly criticizing the league’s usage of chipped footballs on field goal attempts. Castillo complained about the chipped balls during the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ season-opening 27-12 home loss to the Montreal Alouettes on June 6. Castillo, who made more than 90% of his tries in 2023, missed two of three field goals and a conversion.
