SAD NEWS:NRL BEST PLAYER Terry Lamb ANNOUNCE RESIGNATION DUE TO ..

It is believed that Sam Hughes, a young player for the Canterbury Bulldogs, has agreed to a new two-year contract with the team.

Despite having only played a few first-grade games the previous season, Hughes is anticipated to step up this year because the Bulldogs lack depth at forward.

Since the end of 2023, the team has lost Andrew Davey, Raymond Faitala-Mariner, Tevita Pangai Junior, Franklin Pele, Luke Thompson, and Corey Waddell from their forward pack. The only players to join the forward pack since then have been Josh Curran, Poasa Faamausili, and Kurt Mann, a utility who has played lock or hooker for the Knights for the majority of the previous two years. Liam Knight also joined in the middle of the previous season from

Speaking on the Six Tackles with Gus Podcast on Wide World of Sports, Gould stated that Hughes had re-signed for a two-year contract, which is good news for the team ahead of the season.

“Sammy Hughes is a prospect and I think we’ve just agreed to terms to extend him for another couple of years,” Gould stated in the podcast.

“Sammy is a decent child; I’ve liked him since the moment he entered the building, but he’s only suffered injuries. Prior to this preseason, Sammy had suffered a back injury after tripping over a railing during a rock concert.

When he approached us during the end of the 2022 season, I wondered, “Who is this? He was a huge, towering, aggressive child with exceptionally good movement. Wow, I thought, he’s a hope.

“We left him because he was wasting our time all year, but he trained really well in the off-season, so maybe he gets back on track.

“He trialled well the other night, but it was virtually only a reserve grade trial.”

Hughes has already been selected by Gould based on his five first-grade games.
