SO SAD: Packers head coach announced his departure and…

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Chicago Bears,

one of the main rivals of the Green Bay Packers, made a significant move in the 2024 NFL offseason by cutting veteran defensive back Eddie Jackson and offensive lineman Cody Whitehair.

Jackson, who agreed to a $58.4 million, four-year contract with the Bears in 2020, has joined the plethora of players searching for employment prior to the commencement of the 2024 NFL season in a few months.

Given that he has spent his entire NFL career thus far in the NFC North, the 30-year-old Jackson is well-known to Green Bay Packers supporters.

Is Jackson going to play for a different squad in the same division going forward? That will have to wait and see, but he should at least spark some attention from clubs trying to bolster their secondary with depth and experience.

However, Whitehair’s performance in 2023 did not appear to be strong enough to compel the Bears to keep him on the team. In addition, he turns 32 in July.

Through the trade of Jackson and Whitehair, the Bears were able to clear $21.71 million in cap space. With that, the Bears may strengthen their roster in advance of the 2024 campaign, in which they will also aim to defeat the Green Bay Packers and the other teams in the NFC North division.
