The Eagles extend the contract of their top coach to 2023.

The Eagles have given their 2023 squad’s top coach a reward.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the organization and special teams coordinator Michael Clay have come to an agreement on a contract extension that will keep Clay in Philadelphia past the 2017 campaign. This is well earned for the 32-year-old coach, who had a very poor 2022 and 2021 season before a strong 2023 campaign. Clay rewarded the Eagles’ patience by coming through for them.

Actually, the Eagles’ special teams groups were regularly among the best, even though they had difficulties on offense and defense in the previous campaign.

The Eagles were first in the NFL in 2023 for special teams DVOA and far above in conventional special teams metrics as well. After finishing 31st in 2022, the Eagles were ranked 10th in Rick Gosselin’s yearly special teams rankings.Without a doubt, the Eagles’ third-quarter performance this past season was significantly better, and Clay is greatly deserving of the praise.

When Clay was questioned in December about the vote of confidence that head coach Nick Sirianni gave him following the 2022 campaign, it was evident how much it meant to him. He claimed that Sirianni done a “remarkable job instilling trust and confidence” in the building’s occupants.

For what reason did Clay believe Sirianni had faith in him?

On December 22, Clay remarked, “I think he understands in terms of work ethic we all have in this building special teams-wise.” Last year’s final result wasn’t always what we had hoped for. Tell it like it is. wasn’t up to par in the

He is aware of the effort we put in to assist in any manner we can during this difficult time. Seeing what the guys are willing to do for us in terms of just realizing that we have their backs at all times and merely attempting to watch out for their best interests.

“When I consider how amazing Nick has been in that regard, I realize that in order to position this team for success, I must continue to give it back to him. As I mentioned before, the lads have performed incredibly well this year, and several pivotal moments have demonstrated how we have boosted this team’s morale and aided with field position.”

This season, the Eagles also had some outstanding individual efforts from their special teams. With 30 of 32 field goals and 7 of 8 from 50+, including some with extremely high degrees of difficulty, Jake Elliott enjoyed the finest season of his career. After Arryn Siposs was replaced, punter Braden Mann had an outstanding season. Britain Covey was among the NFL’s top punt returners and kept getting better. Additionally, Josh Jobe and Kelee Ringo were excellent punt coverage gunners.

Mann and long snapper Rick Lovato are two of the Eagles’ three specialists who are potential free agents this offseason. Hence, Howie Roseman needs to put in some effort to retain some of Clay’s best players.

For the 2021 campaign, Clay was hired by the Eagles to serve as Sirianni’s special teams coordinator. He worked with the 49ers from 2018 to 2020 as an assistant special teams coach before that. Although there have been significant changes to the Eagles coaching staff this offseason, it makes sense to extend Clay’s contract.
