Zach Pressnell of Fansided.com believes the Packers should trade quarterback Josh Dobbs to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round choice. Pressnell stated:
“Dobbs isn’t giving the Packers a long-term option with this deal. To be honest, he’s not that much better than Malik Willis. However, the truth is that he is just superior to Willis, and for the next few weeks, the Packers could really use a stronger quarterback option.
The worst case scenario is for Love to miss two months; the best situation is for Love to miss three weeks. If the actual situation falls somewhere in the middle, Green Bay, if they continue to start Malik Willis, might find themselves considerably below.500 after six or seven games.
Keeping Willis as a long-term backup makes sense because he has a far better ceiling than Dobbs. However, Dobbs is simply better at this moment, and Green Bay must prevail. It wouldn’t really damage them to win this deal because they wouldn’t be giving up much. Until Love is well enough to return, it would fill the void left by Jordan Love in their offence.
It would be even more delightful because he was a member of the Minnesota Vikings the previous season. It was obvious to Dobbs that he wasn’t good enough to play for the Vikings. It would be poetic if he could visit Green Bay and assist the team win a few games in Love’s absence.
In Week 4, the Green Bay Packers do face the Minnesota Vikings. In addition, they play the Tennessee Titans in Week 3 and the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2.
