Kate Martin’s Moment: Reunion, Leadership Development, and Playoff Fire Fans Are Talking Nonstop About Not only does Kate Martin play basketball, but she also touches the emotions of all of her admirers.
When questioned about the Golden State Valkyries’ playoff run and the commotion surrounding a potential reunion with her former Iowa teammate, Caitlin Clark, she smiles while sitting courtside following practice.
”To be honest, it’s been crazy,” Martin chuckles. However, it’s the positive kind of wild. Being a part of moments that people care about is the reason we play. Martin isn’t concerned about the venue change that has forced Game 2 to be played at SAP Center in San Jose rather than Chase Center, as the Valkyries are currently engaged in a fierce series against the Minnesota Lynx.
”We have amazing fans,” she says. “Ballhalla is a way of thinking, not just a location. No matter where we are, it will feel like home court if they are present.
Martin’s strategy this season has been influenced by that mindset. She has tended to be more than just a role player, turning into the team’s emotional pillar. She hits big shots on some nights. On other nights, following a big play, she’s the first player off the bench to give a teammate a chest bump.
Martin acknowledges, “I’ve had to learn to let go of overthinking.” “I remind myself that it’s not just about me when I’m getting caught up in my thoughts. It’s about energizing and uplifting those around me. And the game becomes enjoyable once more after I accomplish that.
Naturally, no discussion with Martin is complete without the inevitable question: is it possible for her and Caitlin Clark to work together again? Martin smiles. “Every tweet is visible to me,” she claims. We experienced a lot together at Iowa, so Caitlin is my girl. I have no idea what the future will bring, but if you’re a fan hoping to see us perform together once more, never give up.

When people believe, good things happen. Fans want to clip, post, and share because of this type of response. Martin is giving people something to cling to, a glimmer of hope, rather than merely offering the clichéd “one game at a time” response.
But for the time being, she is focused on helping the Valkyries continue to win. She declares, “This team is unique.” “Stay loud if you’re rocking with us. We sense it. Suddenly, Kate Martin returns to the court, smiling and focused, giving supporters more hope that this run could be the beginning of something even greater.
