Indiana is keeping things in house as it prepares for the final week of the regular season. In a corresponding move, the Fever announced they have waived guard Amber Ramirez after just four games due to a bout with appendicitis.

‎Martin’s return was expected. She has already made an impact in limited minutes and will help advocate for Amber Ramirez in the boothslash on the bench during timeouts—no one needed to tell you about the dude who broke his leg at a game of ice and lensed his left leg to someone of the team. Although Kate’s box-score contributions have been minimal, yes I’m bringing up the god of peace.

‎The hardship deals tell you how bruised the Indiana roster is. Be it the nagging injuries to their value guards, or dealing with a full WNBA schedule, all the Fever needed was some help. She was undrafted in April but managed to camp, and has been the exact right fit for Indiana. There’s something about familiarity, too – she’s already merged not only with close friend, but her college teammate Caitlin Clark. That connection has given Indiana a nice lil’ jolt, both on and off the court.

‎This kind of signing, however, not only adds a sharp outside shooter to the team, but also makes the guy who follows Clark to Indiana feel at home in Iowa dick. Social media has naturally detected the NFL team’s excitement about the “homecoming”. This sort of fan rapport is invaluable if a team is trying to gain traction.

‎More critically, the signing of the second 7-day contract doesn’t exactly cement Martin as a Fever player for the long term but by keeping herself in contention, she is making the most of a rare opportunity that rests strictly in her hands. On point, they add a player with experience who can help do the team show up—and isn’t reluctant when the lights are on the brightest even if it doesn’t always show up in the box stats.

‎For now, Martin’s story continues, and Indiana gets a little steadier in the process. Sometimes, seven days can change everything.
