WNBA Players Respond to Kate Martin’s Post

‎Kate Martin, a Golden State Valkyries guard, exudes a presence that transcends basketball.  The second-year star has gained social media attention during her time with the Iowa Hawkeyes, when she played with close friend and current Indiana Fever player Caitlin Clark.

‎Martin has been a star everywhere she’s gone, notably with the Las Vegas Aces as a rookie, where she was mentored by senior WNBA stars that peppered the 2024 Las Vegas squad, and now with Golden State.  “Golden Kate,” as she is affectionately known, has over 471,000 Instagram followers and frequently utilizes the platform to promote business offers, training camps, and her pregame clothes.

‎Martin’s love of fashion is well established, and she expanded her collection with a post on Thursday, August 7, created in cooperation with Saks Fifth Avenue and cash-back provider Rakuten.  Martin sported a white shirt over a black-and-white striped work jacket, baggy black slacks with a pocket chain, and white sneakers in the photo, combining old Americana with ’90s drip.

‎”Fit check,” she started her caption.  “Check out my IG story to shop it at @saks with @rakuten and score Cash Back #RakutenPartner”  Several other WNBA players left comments admiring Martin’s style and expressing their support for Golden State’s budding star.

‎”Sick chain,” Kaitlyn Chen, a Valkyries guard, stated.  “Drip or down,” Valkyries forward Laeticia Amihere stated.  Tiffany Hayes, Valkyries guard, left a comment with two emojis: “SPK! SPK! SPK!,” Valkyries center Temi Fágbénlé exclaimed.  The post featured even more star power.

‎The post was liked by Martin’s former teammates Julie Vanloo (now with the LA Sparks), Chloe Bibby (now with the Indiana Fever), and Valkyries forward Veronica Burton. Caitlin Clark joined in as well, liking it to express her support. Shortly after Martin announced a new collaboration with Rakuten to showcase her game-day attire, the post was published.

‎She posted last month that she was “excited to announce I’m partnering with Rakuten this season to showcase my pregame tunnel looks.” “Shop last night’s game-day outfit from @saks with @rakuten and get Cash Back #RakutenPartner by following my Instagram story.” Fans can anticipate Martin’s signature style to be evident on and off the court when she and the Valkyries take on the Los Angeles Sparks this Saturday at Ballhalla.
