From Underdogs to Unstoppable: Valkyrie Silence Doubters with Statement Win Over Champions

In a game that many expected to be a lopsided affair, the Golden State Valkyrie shocked the basketball world with a resounding and statement-making victory over the defending WNBA champions on Tuesday night. The Bay Area expansion team, still in its debut season, proved that they are not just in the league to participate—they’re here to compete.

Before the game, sports analysts and fans alike questioned whether the Valkyrie, with a roster of young talent and a first-time head coach, could stand a chance against a seasoned championship squad. Those doubts were quickly put to rest as the Valkyrie jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

Led by star guard Ayana Mitchell, who dropped 27 points and added 8 assists, and rookie sensation Kamira Jones, who dominated the paint with 15 rebounds and 4 blocks, the Valkyrie showed poise, chemistry, and an aggressive style of play that rattled their more experienced opponents.

“We came into this game with nothing to lose and everything to prove,” Mitchell said after the game. “Nobody expected us to be here. Nobody expected us to win. But we’ve been putting in the work and tonight we showed what Golden State basketball is all about.”

Coach Natalie Greene, in her first season on the sidelines, praised her team’s defensive intensity and resilience. “We’re building something special,” she said. “The league better take notice—we’re not a project, we’re a problem.”

The Valkyrie’s home crowd at the Chase Center was electric, roaring with every fast break and three-pointer. What began as cautious optimism has quickly transformed into a passionate fanbase rallying behind a team that embodies grit, hustle, and heart.

This win pushes the Valkyrie’s record above .500 and sends a clear message to the rest of the WNBA: the new kids on the block are fearless and formidable.

While it’s still early in the season, one thing is certain—Golden State Valkyrie are no longer underdogs. They’re contenders. And they’re just getting started.
