In an exhilarating evening of top-flight football action, played out at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest produced a dramatic come-from-behind win to celebrate their greatest victory in years. Reds thump ‘Villa’ Absorbing a pulsating 3-2 comeback win over East Midlands rivals Aston Villa, and in doing so, from start to finish, the City Ground was bouncing as the Reds showed grit, heart and attacking swagger.
Forest were slow out of the block and Villa’s own main threat upfront, Ollie Watkins, fired the visitors into the driving seat with a clinical finish after just 12 minutes. But the tone in the second half was dramatically different as Morgan Gibbs-White took control of midfield, a perfect pass from him to Taiwo Awoniyi who finished for the 51st-minute equalizer.
The stadium’s energy grew as the minutes ticked by and the home fans roared their side on.There were some looks of tiredness, but they never sought to use it as an excuse on the pitch either. And only 10 minutes later, Neco Williams sent the Coventry end wild with a thumping strike from long range that provided Forest with a 2-1 advantage.

But the drama wasn’t over. Villa restored parity in the 75th minute with a deflected strike from Douglas Luiz, who threatened to quieten the home fans. Yet Forest refused to surrender. Substitute Anthony Elanga burst through the visiting defence in the dying stages of the game and slotted home the victor, an ice-cool solo finish. Inside the City Ground the eruption was deafening.
The manager after the match, Nuno Espírito Santo, applauded the team’s fighting spirit: “That was Forest at its best – playing with passion, with metallic, steel stability. Our fans really kicked us in the ass tonight.”
