In an exhilarating evening of top-flight football action, played out at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest produced a dramatic come-from-behind win to celebrate their greatest victory in years. But the drama wasn’t over. Villa restored parity in the 75th minute with a deflected strike from Douglas Luiz, who threatened to quieten the home fans. Yet Forest refused to surrender. Substitute Anthony Elanga burst through the visiting defence in the dying stages of the game and slotted home the victor, an ice-cool solo finish. Inside the City Ground the eruption was deafening.
The manager after the match, Nuno Espírito Santo, applauded the team’s fighting spirit: “That was Forest at its best – playing with passion, with metallic, steel stability. Our fans really kicked us in the ass tonight.”
