BREAKING: Darren Waller Comes Out of Retirement, Lands With New Team!

In a bombshell of an announcement, the NFL has announced that longtime tight end Darren Waller, who had retired, has reversed course and announced his return to the NFL, and will not be returning to the New York Giants. Waller is close to signing with a team, and returning to the NFL in dramatic fashion, much to the chagrin of fans league-wide.

Waller, 31, retired earlier in the offseason following an injury-filled 2023 season with the Giants. At the time, it seemed like a final decision, as Waller mentioned interest in pursuing outside interests, including music and mental health advocacy. But a couple months later, the former Pro Bowler has reversed course — and a fresh opportunity has brought him back to the gridiron.

Though the particular team Waller is joining remains unannounced, unofficial word has Waller expected to be added by an AFC contender that considers him a piece of the puzzle to make a Super Bowl run. Waller has been training on his own, I’ve been told, and is in great shape, fired up for a new opportunity and a second chance to win at the highest level.

“Darren feels like he has a lot more to give — he’s healthy, focused and he’s a man on a mission to finish on his own terms.”

Waller’s return fills a big need for any team looking for a versatile, elite pass-catching tight end. At his best, Waller was one of the league’s most dangerous offensive weapons, recording consecutive 1,000-yard seasons with the Raiders with a Pro Bowl appearance in 2020. Bryant’s size, speed and route-running ability make him a nightmare matchup when he is completely healthy.
