BREAKING HISTORIC MOVE: Sanford Stadium to Host First-Ever Night Playoff Game — Dawgs vs. Alabama Confirmed!

ATHENS, GA — College football history is about to be made under the lights. In a monumental announcement that has sent shockwaves through the sport, the College Football Playoff Committee has confirmed that  Sanford Stadium  will host its first-ever night playoff game, featuring a heavyweight clash between the  Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The showdown is scheduled for  Saturday night, December 13, 2025, and will be the first time Sanford Stadium — often called “Between the Hedges” — serves as the stage for a CFP night playoff matchup. The news has ignited massive excitement among Dawg Nation and the college football world at large.

“This is more than just a football game. This is history,” said Georgia head coach Kirby Smart. “Playing a playoff game at home, under the lights, in front of our fans — there’s nothing like it.”

Georgia, ranked No. 2 heading into the postseason, will face off against their fiercest SEC rival, Alabama, who secured the No. 7 seed after a strong second half of the season. The matchup marks another chapter in what has become one of college football’s most epic modern rivalries.

This game isn’t just about football — it’s about spectacle. The University of Georgia has announced  major pregame festivities,  including a student-led “Red and Black Light Show,” fireworks, and a pregame concert by a surprise national act. ESPN’s College GameDay will also broadcast live from Athens all day, leading into the prime-time kickoff.

The economic and cultural impact is already evident. Hotels in Athens sold out within hours of the announcement, and ticket resale prices have skyrocketed. Fans across the country are expected to tune in for what’s shaping up to be a once-in-a-generation event.

Senior linebacker Smael Mondon summed up the team’s mood: “We dreamed of moments like this — a playoff night game at home, with everything on the line. It’s time to show the world what Georgia football is all about.”

History, rivalry, and national stakes — Sanford Stadium is ready to shine.
