David Gilmour, the legendary guitarist and co-founder of Pink Floyd, has made a triumphant return to the music scene with his fifth solo studio album, Luck and Strange, released on September 6, 2024, via Sony Music. This marks his first collection of new material since 2015’s Rattle That Lock. Gilmour has described the album as his most accomplished work since Pink Floyd’s seminal 1973 release, The Dark Side of the Moon.

Luck and Strange is a deeply personal project, featuring significant contributions from Gilmour’s family. His wife, novelist Polly Samson, penned most of the lyrics, exploring themes of aging and mortality. Their children—Romany, Gabriel, and Charlie—also contributed vocals and songwriting, adding a familial warmth to the album.

The album was co-produced by Gilmour and Charlie Andrew, known for his work with Alt-J. Andrew’s fresh perspective challenged Gilmour to explore new musical directions, resulting in a sound that blends rock, blues, and ambient elements. Notably, the title track features keyboard parts recorded in 2007 by the late Richard Wright, Pink Floyd’s keyboardist, adding a poignant touch to the record.

To promote Luck and Strange, Gilmour embarked on the “Luck and Strange Tour,” his first in eight years, with performances in Rome, London, Los Angeles, and New York City. The tour featured a mix of new songs and classic Pink Floyd hits, showcasing Gilmour’s enduring talent and appeal.

Looking ahead, Gilmour has announced plans for an expansive world tour in 2025, titled the “Echoes Across the World Tour.” The tour is set to span over 30 countries, including stops in North America, Europe, Asia, South America, and Oceania, with over 60 confirmed dates. It will kick off in Los Angeles on March 10, 2025, and conclude in London on December 15, 2025.

Fans can anticipate a blend of Gilmour’s solo material and Pink Floyd classics, delivered with the emotive guitar work and soulful vocals that have defined his career. Tickets for the 2025 tour are expected to go on sale soon, with pre-sale opportunities available for registered fans.

As Gilmour continues to create and perform, Luck and Strange stands as a testament to his enduring artistry and the deep personal connections that inspire his music.
