Stefon Diggs may be facing release from the New England Patriots after footage surfaced of him aboard a yacht with bikini-clad women and holding a bag with an unknown substance—sparking backlash, including from his girlfriend Cardi B.
An NFL insider claimed the team is considering all options after the video, filmed during Memorial Day weekend, gained widespread attention. The clip shows the star receiver shirtless, interacting with three women who called him “daddy.” Cardi B, reportedly present at the party, was not seen near the incident.
The video ends with Diggs appearing to hand one of the women a plastic bag containing an unidentifiable substance.
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported that unless Diggs offers a convincing explanation, the Patriots might take disciplinary action. “It comes down to what Stefon told coach Mike Vrabel and whether it’s believable,” Breer said during an interview with 98.5 The Sports Hub.
Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, recently signed a $69 million, three-year deal with the Patriots—$25 million of which is guaranteed—after spending last season with the Houston Texans.
Breer explained that the NFL will likely hit a roadblock in trying to determine what the substance was, leaving the decision in the Patriots’ hands. “If they want to reclaim any of the guaranteed money, they’d need to cut him immediately,” Breer added. He also speculated Diggs’ recent absence from practice could be linked to the team evaluating the situation.
Head coach Mike Vrabel acknowledged the incident on Wednesday but didn’t reveal details. “We’re aware of it, and we want to make good decisions on and off the field. Any discussions with Stefon will stay between us,” Vrabel stated.
Breer noted Vrabel’s experience could help him judge Diggs’ credibility. “If Stefon owns up, offers a believable explanation, and apologizes to the team, it might be enough to move forward.”
Meanwhile, a source close to Cardi B revealed she’s frustrated with Diggs over the viral video. Although the rapper has dealt with past relationship drama, she expected better judgment from him. “She doesn’t want her man flirting with other women, especially publicly,” the insider said. “He should have been more aware—it’s embarrassing, and she’s mad.
