Two Patriots Wide Receivers Face Intense Pressure Ahead of New NFL Season

On the NESN podcast “Boston Has Entered The Chat,” Adam Pellerin highlighted these two second-year players as being firmly on the “hot seat,” especially given their underwhelming contributions during their rookie campaigns.
Pellerin emphasized that expectations were high for Polk after he was selected in the second round, but his performance didn’t meet those hopes. “A lot of drops,” Pellerin noted, referencing Polk’s struggles catching the ball. Between Polk and Baker, the two only managed a combined 13 receptions last season—with Polk accounting for 12 of them. Their limited production has raised concerns, especially considering the reinforcements the Patriots have added this offseason.
The competition in the wide receiver group has intensified. New England now carries 12 receivers on the roster, and the additions of established players like Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins, along with the drafting of promising rookie Kyle Williams, have increased the pressure on Polk and Baker to prove their value.
While the team might still hope Polk can develop into the player they envisioned when they drafted him, Baker’s position appears more precarious. If the UCF product doesn’t show improvement, the Patriots could easily part ways with him in favor of more promising or productive talent.
