After seven years of silence and what many believed to be a permanent farewell, legendary Celtic rock band Runrig has stunned fans across the globe by announcing a 2025 reunion tour and the release of a brand-new studio album. The announcement came early Monday morning via the band’s official website and social media channels, sparking an immediate wave of excitement and emotional reactions from longtime supporters.
Titled “Skye Rising”, the 2025 tour will begin in May with a series of special shows in Scotland before expanding into a full European tour, including stops in Germany, Denmark, Norway, and the Netherlands, where the band has always enjoyed a loyal following. A handful of shows are also planned for North America, marking their first transatlantic performances in over a decade.
Even more thrilling for fans is the announcement of a new studio album, also titled “Skye Rising”, set to be released in April 2025, just weeks before the tour kicks off. According to a statement from the band, the album will be “a celebration of where we’ve been, where we are, and the journey still ahead.” It promises a return to the group’s roots, blending powerful Gaelic ballads with rock anthems and poetic storytelling that made Runrig one of Scotland’s most beloved musical exports.
Founding member Rory Macdonald shared his thoughts:
“We thought we had said our final goodbyes in 2018, but over the years, we’ve felt the music still calling. We’ve stayed close as friends, and with the support of our families and fans, we knew it was time to rise again.”
The reunion will include core members from the classic lineup, and while former frontman Bruce Guthro, who passed away in 2023, will be deeply missed, the band has hinted at a “special tribute” during each show. Vocals for the new tour and album will reportedly feature a blend of guest singers and returning contributors familiar to the Runrig faithful.
Fan communities have erupted with joy, sharing memories, photos, and anticipation for what’s being described as a historic comeback. Tickets are expected to go on sale next month, with pre-sales opening first to members of the official Runrig fan club.
After decades of musical storytelling that echoed across the Highlands and beyond, Runrig’s return is not just a reunion — it’s a revival.
