Ohio State’s 5-Star Commit Spotted in Eugene Amid Oregon’s Recruiting Push

Ohio State commit Chris Henry Jr., one of the most sought-after recruits in the 2026 class, may not be as locked in as once thought. The five-star wide receiver committed to the Buckeyes in July 2023, but Oregon is making a serious effort to change his mind. Head coach Dan Lanning has built a strong reputation on the recruiting trail, and his influence seems to be growing with Henry Jr.

Despite being pledged to Ohio State, Henry Jr. is currently in Eugene for a visit with Oregon’s coaching staff.

“Ohio State 5-star WR commit Chris Henry Jr. is currently visiting Oregon,” recruiting expert Pete Nakos reported.

Ranked No. 9 overall in the 2026 class by 247Sports, Henry Jr. is the second-ranked wide receiver and one of the top prospects in California. He plays at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, a powerhouse program known for churning out elite college talent.

A knee injury sidelined Henry Jr. for much of his junior season, but when healthy, he’s one of the most explosive wide receivers in his class. At nearly 6-foot-6 and 195 pounds, he has the rare combination of length, speed, and agility that makes him a nightmare for defenders. Scouts rave about his quick burst off the line, smooth route-running, and ability to win contested catches with ease.

“He has the long speed to stretch the field and hit the home run, combined with the size and sure hands to be a go-to target on key third downs,” reads his scouting report. “He’s dominant in jump-ball situations, and as he continues to add muscle, his game will only improve.”

Could Oregon Pull Off a Flip?

Both Ohio State and Oregon are recruiting powerhouses, finishing with top-five classes for 2025—Ohio State at No. 4 and Oregon at No. 5. The battle for elite talent is heating up again for 2026, and Henry Jr.’s recruitment is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing storylines. Will he stay committed to the Buckeyes, or can the Ducks pull off a major flip? Time will tell, but Oregon is clearly making a strong push.
