BREAKING: Another Sunderland FC target has successfully passed his medical and is now on a move to Sunderland

Sunderland have completed another piece of transfer business, with highly rated midfielder Jules Ahoka arriving on Wearside after completing the final stages of his move from Royal Antwerp.

The 20-year-old has now officially joined the Black Cats on a long-term contract, bringing another young and promising option into Régis Le Bris’ squad as Sunderland prepare for a demanding 2026/27 campaign.

Ahoka’s move represents a significant step in a developing career. The midfielder only moved to Antwerp from AC Normands in the Democratic Republic of Congo last year, but his performances and potential were enough to attract Sunderland’s recruitment team.

Sunderland had been monitoring the player closely before making their move. After negotiations with Antwerp progressed, an agreement was reached for a deal reportedly worth around £8 million. Personal terms were also settled, allowing the midfielder to travel to England and complete the formalities of his transfer.

The deal gives Le Bris another young player to work with and strengthens the club’s midfield options. Ahoka is regarded as a player with considerable room for development, and Sunderland believe their environment can help him take the next step.

His arrival also fits the club’s wider recruitment strategy. Sunderland have shown a clear willingness to combine experience with younger players capable of developing over several seasons. The signing of Ahoka follows the arrival of experienced defender Thomas Meunier, while the club have also been active in strengthening other areas of the squad.

Ahoka brings a different profile. He is a midfielder who can contribute defensively while also providing energy and physicality in the middle of the pitch. His performances at the Toulon Under-20s Tournament in France reportedly strengthened Sunderland’s belief that he has the mentality and qualities required to succeed at a higher level.

For the player himself, the move represents an opportunity to test his ability in English football while learning from a squad containing more experienced professionals. Sunderland’s involvement in domestic competition and European football also provides an attractive platform for his development.

The transfer indicates the work being carried out behind the scenes by sporting director Florent Ghisolfi and the recruitment department. Rather than simply adding numbers, Sunderland appear focused on identifying players who can grow in value and importance within the squad.

Ahoka is expected to wear the number 29 shirt at the Stadium of Light. His arrival means Sunderland have added another player capable of competing for opportunities in midfield, giving Le Bris greater depth as the season progresses.

There will naturally be expectations surrounding a player arriving for a sizeable fee, but Sunderland supporters may be encouraged by the long-term thinking behind the deal. At just 20, Ahoka has time to adapt to the pace, physical demands and tactical requirements of English football.

The move also gives Sunderland another young talent with international experience at youth level. That background, combined with his time in Belgium, should provide a useful foundation as he begins his next chapter on Wearside.

For Le Bris, the priority will now be helping Ahoka settle quickly into his methods and the demands of Premier League football. The French coach has repeatedly stressed the importance of building a competitive squad, and the latest addition gives him another option to rotate and develop.

Sunderland’s transfer activity is therefore continuing to gather momentum. After a summer in which supporters have waited patiently for further additions, Ahoka’s arrival provides another sign that the club remain committed to improving the squad.

The midfielder now has the chance to turn his potential into performances in the famous red and white. For Sunderland, the hope is that this latest investment becomes another successful chapter in the club’s ongoing rebuild.

With the deal completed and the medical successfully cleared, attention will now turn to when Ahoka could make his first appearance for the Black Cats. Supporters will be eager to see what the highly regarded youngster can bring, and whether he can quickly establish himself as an important part of Le Bris’ plans.

One thing is certain: Sunderland have secured another promising talent, and Ahoka’s journey on Wearside is only just beginning.
