“$70 MILLION? KEEP IT.” — DEVIN BOOKER’S STUNNING PHOENIX SUNS DECISION HAS FANS TALKING AGAIN
There are certain players whose names become permanently attached to a franchise. For the Phoenix Suns, Devin Booker has reached that point. Through different coaches, changing teammates, difficult seasons and major roster moves, Booker has remained the familiar face in the Valley.
Now, as Phoenix enters another important chapter, attention is once again turning toward its longtime superstar. Booker is not simply another player on the roster. He is the franchise’s career leader in total points and three-pointers, and his presence continues to shape how the Suns approach the future.
That is why every major decision surrounding Booker attracts immediate attention.
The Suns have already gone through significant changes. Kevin Durant is no longer in Phoenix, while the organization has brought in a new group around Booker, including Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and Miles Bridges. The result is a team with a noticeably different identity heading into the 2026–27 campaign.
But through all of those changes, one thing has remained constant: Booker is still in Phoenix.
That matters because the 29-year-old guard is entering this season as the centerpiece of a team that is trying to take another step forward. Last season, Booker averaged 26.1 points and 6.0 assists per game, helping Phoenix reach the playoffs through the Play-In Tournament.
The Suns ultimately fell to Oklahoma City in the opening round, leaving the organization with plenty to reconsider.
Instead of simply rebuilding around Booker, however, Phoenix reshaped the supporting cast.
Jalen Green brings another dynamic scoring option to the backcourt. Dillon Brooks adds physicality and defensive intensity, while Miles Bridges gives the team another experienced scorer and a different type of presence in the frontcourt. Phoenix also added Luke Kennard and several younger players as it continued rebuilding the roster around its established star.
For Booker, that means another opportunity.
He has already committed his long-term future to the organization. In July 2025, Booker agreed to a two-year, $145 million extension that keeps him under contract with Phoenix through the 2029–30 season.
That commitment makes the dramatic “$70 MILLION? KEEP IT.” headline more symbolic than literal. Booker is not currently choosing between Phoenix and a reported $70 million offer. Instead, the bigger story is the value of having a franchise star who has already chosen to remain with the organization for the long haul.
And that is exactly why Suns supporters are paying close attention.
The 2026–27 roster looks different from the one Booker has known for much of his career. There are new personalities, new expectations and a new head coach in Jordan Ott. Phoenix is hoping those changes can produce a stronger team after last season’s disappointing playoff exit.
Booker will inevitably carry much of that responsibility.
The pressure is familiar. So is the spotlight.
What makes this chapter particularly interesting is that Phoenix is no longer simply asking Booker to carry everything by himself. The organization has surrounded him with more scoring, additional size and players capable of creating opportunities in different ways.
That could make Booker’s role even more important.
Instead of being asked to solve every problem, he can focus on doing what he has done throughout his Suns career: scoring, creating, leading and setting the tone for the players around him.
For a franchise that has experienced so many changes, continuity at the top could prove significant.
Booker has been in Phoenix since the 2015 NBA Draft. More than a decade later, he remains the face of the organization and one of the most recognizable players in Suns history.
Now the next chapter is beginning.
The money, the roster changes and the new coaching staff will continue generating headlines. But one message remains clear: Devin Booker is still wearing purple and orange, and the Suns are building their next era with him at the center.
For Phoenix fans, that alone is enough to make this season impossible to ignore.
