Symphonic metal titans Nightwish have once again solidified their legendary status with the release of their highly anticipated tenth studio album, Yesterwynde, which dropped on September 20, 2025. Marking a new chapter in the band’s evolution, the album is the first to feature bassist Jukka Koskinen, following the departure of long-time member Marko Hietala in 2021. Produced by the band’s creative mastermind Tuomas Holopainen and recorded at prestigious locations including Abbey Road Studios, Yesterwynde has been celebrated for its rich blend of symphonic, progressive, and gothic metal elements, reaffirming Nightwish’s unique position in the genre.

Their musical excellence has not gone unnoticed. At the 2025 Metal Awards, Nightwish was crowned Symphonic Metal Band of the Year, securing over 32% of the vote, a testament to their enduring global fanbase and the success of Yesterwynde.

However, with this triumph comes a strategic pause. The band announced a two- to three-year touring hiatus, aiming to prioritize personal well-being and avoid burnout. Despite the break, the band has teased plans to celebrate their 30th anniversary in 2026, hinting at a powerful return to the stage.

During the hiatus, lead vocalist Floor Jansen is focusing on her solo career. She announced a 10-date spoken word and music tour in the Netherlands titled Strijdlust (Fighting Spirit), scheduled for September 2025. This unique tour will highlight her personal journey through cancer, motherhood, and life as a frontwoman in metal. Simultaneously, she is also developing her second solo album, continuing the momentum from her earlier solo work.

Meanwhile, former bassist Marko Hietala released his new solo album Roses from the Deep in February 2025, reflecting his personal and artistic growth post-Nightwish.

With new music, introspective solo projects, and major anniversaries on the horizon, Nightwish remains at the heart of symphonic metal’s evolving landscape.
